February's "Pride, Passion, Purpose" Wizards at WHS
Picture of Principal, Assistant Principal and 4 Wizards of the month

The February “Pride, Passion, Purpose” Wizards have been announced at Washingtonville High School (WHS). This new program, initiated in January 2019, gives teachers and students the opportunity to nominate others who best represent the High School’s mission.

The vision of WHS places emphasis on the importance of the whole child and re-defining success, so the initiative focuses on positive behavior in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or in the community. Characteristics like effort, kindness, volunteerism, and character, to name a few, are recognized. Nomination forms are available in the main office and regular announcements are made to remind people about the program.

For the month of February, Grade 12 student Liz Allegro was selected for being one of the kindest people in the District and for representing Wizard Nation in the best way possible. Grade 11 student Kevin Chait was chosen for his kindness and compassion, modeling how students should treat each other, and his hard-working mentality. Aspire teacher Elena Wakeham won because she cares deeply, is a Wizard through and through, and works endlessly to give students opportunities to learn. Social Studies teacher Kathy Wurster was selected for her devotion, professionalism, and overall making WHS (and the world) a better place.

Winners have lunch with High School Principal Brian Connolly, are awarded a Wizard “Pride, Passion, Purpose” T-shirt and a special parking spot at the school, and are featured on the school’s website and social media pages.
