Additional Information:

If you believe your bank or mortgage company escrows for your taxes (your monthly mortgage amount includes a tax escrow payment) and you receive a tax bill, please forward your bill to the bank or company holding your mortgage.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you of your responsibility for payment. It also will not constitute cause for cancellation of any penalty if the bill becomes delinquent. (New York State Real Property Tax Law 922) If you do not receive a tax bill, please contact the tax collector at the number above to obtain a copy of your tax bill.

Updates to STAR Program:

Changes have been made to the School Tax Relief (STAR) program, which provides school tax rebates for owner-occupied primary New York residences. To be eligible for Basic STAR rebates your income must be $500,000 or less. Enhanced STAR is available for senior citizens who have a qualifying income of $86,300 or less. Starting this fall, the rebate check program will be expanded to include not only new homeowners, but also those who receive a STAR reduction directly off their tax bills. Anyone earning between $250,000 and $500,000 a year will now automatically get a check for their STAR rebates rather than obtaining the savings directly in their school tax bills. The State is providing a two percent increase in STAR breaks this year only to those currently enrolled in the check program with hopes to incentivize those who are not on the check system to switch over.

Overall, the check program change will help cut out fraud in the program and streamline the payment system. To make the switch or for more information visit https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star/star-renunciation.htm.
