Last year, Taft Elementary School won a grant from Danone and ShopRite to promote innovative fitness in education. The grant brings the Project Fit America program to the school community and provides state-of-the-art outdoor and indoor fitness equipment, curriculum, and on-site teacher training. On October 25, the school celebrated the official installation of the new equipment with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Physical Education teachers explained each fitness station, and students gave demonstrations in front of the crowd. Highlights from the event included a hula hoop competition between Washingtonville administrators, the mayor, and a PTA member, and the presentation of a certificate from New York State Assembly Colin Schmitt’s office.
