Members of the Washingtonville Central School District community are invited to Round Hill Elementary School on September 23, 2019 at 6 PM for a dedication ceremony for the building’s Kindergarten wing.
The dedication will be in honor of Washingtonville Central School District (WCSD) retiree and lifelong Washingtonville resident, Dr. Janet L. Seaman. Dr. Seaman wore many hats during her time at WCSD. After receiving degrees from SUNY Plattsburgh, the State University of New York at New Paltz, and Fordham University, she began her career at WCSD as a Grade 4 teacher. From there she moved to teaching Grade 1, reading, and later became the reading supervisor/specialist for the District. Seaman finished her career at Washingtonville as the assistant superintendent of elementary education (now formally known as the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction).
She was instrumental in creating many of the programs that our District has today. She sought funding to create the District Universal Pre-Kindergarten program, implemented a well-respected and meaningful Pre-K curriculum, and created the Central Registrar position/process, which provides parents and their children a smooth transition into the District.
In retirement, Janet volunteers for many organizations in our community and remains a huge supporter of various charities.
