From The Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians of Little Britain Students:

Well, we made it through the New York State Testing! As anticipated they were challenging and long but our teachers and students did an outstanding job in preparing for them and they truly tried their best. This week we will finish taking our NWEA MAP assessments in all grades. On May 22, our fourth grade students will take the NYS Science Performance Test and on June 3, they will take the NYS Science Written Test. Our fifth graders will be participating in a NYS Field Test for ELA on June 5. At this time we are unsure of when we will receive any test results but these results will be shared with you once they are received.

Congratulations to our Little Britain Players on a fabulous performance of the play “The Attack of the Killer Grasshoppers.” Over 80 students under the direction of Ms. Caldwell and Mr. Klopchin practiced together for the past four months to create a wonderful performance for our school, their families and our community. On May 30, at 7 pm in the High School Auditorium our 4th and 5th grade chorus and our 5th grade band will be performing. We look forward to seeing you there as we continue to celebrate our love for music.

May continues to be a very busy month for our school and district. Our fourth grade students will have a “Broadway and Brunch” on May 14. On May 14 and May 15, our Little Britain PTO will be hosting their Spring Book Fair from 9:30 – 2 pm and there will be evening hours from 6:30 – 8 pm on May 14.

Our theme this month is “Random Acts of Kindness” and we will honor those students caught doing good deeds at our monthly Spirit Assembly on Friday, May 17 at 1:30 pm. On May 24 we will have our Cross Country Run (Grades 4 & 5) at 9:30 am. In honor of Memorial Day, there will be no school on Monday, May 27. Our kindergarteners will be treated to their “Kindergarten Cafeteria Experience” on Friday, May 31. They will have the opportunity of eating lunch in the cafeteria. It is hard to believe they are almost first graders. On Friday, May 31, our Little Britain Playground Committee will be sponsoring the final Chocolate Bingo of the school year. This event begins promptly at 6:30 pm.

As you are aware our annual budget vote is on May 21, 2013 from 6 am – 9 pm. Information regarding Washingtonville’s Budget for 2013-2014 and the Special Services and Transportation Propositions can be found on our district website. Children are our biggest asset and it is important that we continue to provide them with all of the opportunities that we can. Please remember to exercise your right to vote on May 21.

It is hard to believe that we have only 32 days of school left. As the end of year nears, Little Britain will continue to bustle with many different activities. Once again, thank you for all of your support throughout the year. I look forward to seeing you at our end of the year events.

Yours truly,

Barbara Quinn
