Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break. Hopefully soon we will see some spring like weather. Believe it or not we are on the home stretch of the 2017-18 school year. Over the winter we had a very successful athletic season. We had section qualifiers in Boys and Girls Basketball as well as swimming. We sent seven student athletes to States in indoor track. We also had two girls, Victoria Mirecki and Victoria Pecovic score their 1000 point as Wizard Basketball players. Our Masque and Mime production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” was a huge success and our Winter Chorus and Band Concerts were outstanding.
We are very busy planning for our spring and end of the year events. A reminder to Seniors, graduation is not too far away. Please continue to work hard and set a good example for our underclassmen. These last four months will be very special and we look forward to celebrating all of your accomplishments.
The end of the school year also means AP and Regents exams. Please be reminded that you can sign up for Regents Review classes in the main office and you can also see Ms. Richardson in the library if you are interested in Peer Tutoring. The Regents exam schedule will be posted on the Guidance Department website.
I have been fortunate to visit a number of classrooms over the school year and I continue to be impressed with the level of commitment to excellence that I have seen by both our students and teachers. Over the winter, members of the Principal’s Advisory Committee and myself presented to the Board of Education on our newly created vision and mission for WHS. We discussed a greater emphasis on developing 21st century skills, promoting social, emotional and academic wellness and encouraging our students to be innovators and problem solvers. The presentation is available on the High School web page. At WHS, we are very proud of our student’s accomplishments, but we continue to remind our students that it is not only what you know, it is also what you do with what you know to make this school, community and nation a better place.
