MMT & Algebra
What is MMT?
What is MMT?
Math Modeling with Technology
What is math modeling?
Applying mathematics to explain real-life situations or solve real-life problems
What are some examples of mathematical models?
All models are representations of some relationship.  Some examples that we will explore in MMT are: charts, diagrams, drawings, equations, formulas, functions, graphs, and tables.
What technology is utilized in MMT?
A graphing calculator, computer software programs, and web-based programs
What is the goal of MMT?
To introduce students to mathematical modeling, while continuously integrating technology into the classroom.  By doing so, we are going to help lay a strong foundation for students' success in Algebra I class in the spring semester.

What should students expect to do in MMT & Algebra I math classes?
    THINK!  LISTEN!  SHARE!  READ!  WRITE!

In addition, students will:
  • think about problems and solutions in context
  • discuss problems and alternative solutions
  • actively participate in class discussions and lessons
  • engage in discussions and sharing ideas
  • take risks and be willing to make mistakes and learn from them
  • analyze data and information
  • utilize and learn various problem solving strategies
  • actively engage in problem solving
  • work in cooperative learning groups
  • interpret solutions and results
  • solve situation problems

Why do students have to learn algebra?

Every student has probably asked the question, "Why do I have to learn Algebra?  I'll never use it again."  Possibly, but you will use the area of your brain that it develops everyday of your life.  Studying math is critical to brain development.  Math teaches you to take steps to find an answer. The process is every bit as important as the answer.  Without mental discipline, even the smartest of people can fail in life.  As you think your way through math problems, you actually build new and stronger brain circuitry that translates into solving all of life's challenges more effectively.  If you are interested in building your body strength, but neglect your brain, you are only accomplishing part of what you need.  Think of math as "working out" your brain!
