Academic Intervention Services (AIS) math students meet 2 to 3 times per week. Students are instructed in small group settings to help meet New York State mathematics learning standards. These services include additional instruction that supplements the general curriculum. Additional instruction means the provision of extra time for focused instruction and/or increased student-teacher instructional contact time designed to help students achieve these learning standards.
You will have a great time this year in AIS Math learning math in fun and exciting ways. We use the Smart Board, computers, manipulatives and tablets to learn, review and practice math skills. We meet in small groups to learn just what you need. We use manipulatives and play math games often as a way of practicing these skills.
Solving word problems is an important part of math. We will solve and create word problems using tape diagrams or bar models, pictures, and charts. Check out the Math Playground website to practice using the tape diagrams to solve problems.
