6th Graders Going Into 7th Grade

BAND 

  • Students must be currently playing an instrument to be in the band!

  • Students who participate in band have an opportunity to experience music by playing a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument in an ensemble.

  • Rehearsals are part of the student’s regular schedule and meet every other day for the entire year.

  • There will be evening performances scheduled during the school year.

  • Small group lessons occur on a rotating pullout basis similar to the elementary program.

  • Current band students may also audition for Wind Ensemble. Auditions will be held in May.

CHORUS 

  • Any student may join chorus but must have a genuine desire to learn to sing!

  • Students who participate in chorus have an opportunity to experience music by singing in a choral setting.

  • Students will be taught how to sing properly and how to read music. Written tests are part of the evaluation process.

  • Rehearsals are part of the student’s regular schedule and meet every other day for the entire year.

  • There will be evening performances scheduled during the school year.

  • Current chorus students may also audition for Select chorus. Auditions will be held in May.

BAND and CHORUS

  • Students may choose to participate in both band and chorus. This choice requires that they do not take 2 strategies classes.

GENERAL MUSIC 7

  • General Music is a music appreciation class designed for the non-performing student.

  • Students will learn about music history and various musical styles including popular music.

  • Students will learn the basics of how to read music through piano and/or guitars.

  • Class meets every other day for the entire year.
