Answers
1) Q Will I get lost in the Middle School?
A
During the first few days of school your teachers will walk with you between classes to be sure you get to the right place. Once you have a routine it is unlikely that you will get lost. If you have a question about where something is you can easily find a hall monitor, teacher or school safety officer nearby.
2) Q What do I need to know about lockers?
A
Lockers are assigned on the first day of school in your first period class. Your locker will be in a hallway close to your team classrooms. You need to bring 2 locks, one for your hall locker and one for your gym locker. You can buy locks in 2 packs that have the same combination for both locks to reduce confusion. Students should practice the combination locks over the summer to reduce anxiety. If necessary students can use a key lock. It is recommended that a second key be left in the main office.
3) Q Do I need to change for gym?
A
You will have gym every other day. In the middle school we alternate blue and gold days. The first day of school is always a blue day, followed by a gold, then blue, etc… On gym days you are expected to bring a change of clothes and a lock to secure your personal items in the locker room while you participate in class.
4) Q How do I know which team I am on?
A

During August you will receive a letter stating your team name, introducing your teachers and a supply list for the upcoming school year. Do not discard the envelope, printed on the envelope you will find the classroom you report to on the first day of school.

5) Q Who is my guidance counselor?
A
Counselors are assigned by last name. A-Dicw, Wis-Z is Mr. Siegel; Did-Lag is Mrs. Martin-Brown; Lah-Polo is Ms. Cooney; Pop-Wir is Ms. Davis.
6) Q What will I need to bring the first day of school?
A
Your team letter in August will provide you with the list of necessary supplies. Make sure on the first day you have something to write with, something to write on, your lock and lunch or money for lunch. Book bags and backpacks should be small enough to fit into your locker. For safety reasons students are not allowed to carry them around during the school day.
7) Q If I am having a problem with another student what should I do?
A
If you are having a problem or feeling uncomfortable you need to share this information with an adult. There are many trusted adults available in the middle school to speak with. Some of the adults available to assist you with any problems or concerns would be the principal or assistant principal, your guidance counselor, one of your teachers, a monitor or safety officer, an adult in the cafeteria, your bus driver and most certainly your parents.
8) Q When do I get to take a foreign language?
A
Most students will begin their foreign language experience in seventh grade by choosing either French or Spanish.
9) Q How does band work?
A
Students are scheduled for band every other day in the schedule. Lessons are taught on a rotating schedule so that students do not miss the same class each time.
10) Q Can I bring an IPod, MP3 or other electronic device to school?
A
Students are discouraged from bringing items of value that can be lost or stolen. I pod's, MP3’s and other handheld video games and music devices are not permitted to be used during the school day. Cell phones must also be turned off and remain out of sight during the school day.
11) Q Where do I find my bus?
A
Pay close attention to where you are dropped off in the morning. Your bus will line up in the same general location (in front of the high school, by the tennis courts, up the hill, outside of the middle school). Know your route number, this will not change. Buses may occasionally be swapped for maintenance or field trips but the route number on the nose of the bus will always reflect the correct route number.
12) Q What is the late bus?
A
The late bus leaves at 4:00 everyday and is available to all middle school students who are staying after school for a club, extra help or other school related functions. Students must get a pass from a middle school staff member to ride the late bus.
